It all started with our Snow Report, now we have employed our own 'Apres-ski Instructor' with the latest round of the the goings on 'off the piste' (or should that be 'on the piste'!) in the resort's bars and clubs, as well as other interesting venues. Events, celebrities, paparazzis, glam, glitter, big nights out and the hangover- we will endeavour to be reporting them here, if we can remember what happened...
Wow! What a week and it’s not even over yet. With the X Games over in Tignes is been an amazing time to see some of the world’s best skiers and boarders riding our local terrain. The pipe and jumps are massive and some of the tricks I’ve seen have just been incredible.
The week started on a good one with Blue Notes fourth birthday party. Now for you regular readers of these reports, you’ll know that Blue Note is one of my regular haunts. It’s a welcoming bar where you can come to meet the locals, hang out for a quiet drinks where you can hear yourself speak over the relaxed soundtrack of jazz, soul and funk as the name suggests. There’s a good selection of beers, wines and cocktails and its run how a bar should be with brother and sister owners Matt and Lou France welcoming everyone who enters. It’s a popular hang out for locals because you won’t get pushed about, have your drink spilt and you can hear what everyone’s saying. Also at après, they offer free nibbles as well as a good list of hot drinks including teas, coffees and hot chocolates as well as some comfy sofas in a nice, warm, comfortable environment. Not forgetting the baby-foot table where if you dare to challenge the staff, you’re more than likely to get beaten or if you’re up for it the weekly Wednesday baby-foot competition offers a good challenge with local seasonaires and tourists battling for a bottle of bubbly. So the birthday night was a very chilled affair with some free champagne and lots of familiar faces. Although there were quite a few shooters being knocked back, Lou and Matt are also the dons of the shooters, just watch out and remember when you try and keep up that they are well rehearsed shot masters with everything from jager-bombs to the local delicacy genepy. So Happy Birthday Blue Note and congrats to Lou and Matt for having such a friendly, welcoming bar.
Tuesday night on my night off we decided to spend a night in Tignes for the Method Mag and Rockstar Energy Drink party in the Loop Bar in Tignes Le Lac and about fifteen of us headed over to represent Val d’Isere. The Loop Bar is situated just next to the nursery slope at the bottom of Trolles and it’s a good hangout for lunch and a beer on their sunny terrace after a hard days riding (or as a good hangover cure too). So this was a good chance to see what the Loop was like at night. We got there about half eight and managed to grab a table that we would all fit around. The live music was provided by French girl punk band “The Decibels” and there was quite a few of us head-banging and moshing around. The drinks kept coming served by the lovely Dom and then the Rockstar Energy Drink girls came out offering free energy drinks so everyone got pretty hyper and more dancing was had. I also bumped into a few familiar faces which is always nice and it was a really good fun night so I’ll definitely head back over at some point this season.
As for upcoming events, tomorrow is all about the X Games final day with the Halfpipe and Slopestyle finals so get yourself down there and prepare to be amazed. If you fancy a night out in Tignes then the Loop Bar is the place to be for the Dalikfodda Tour which is guaranteed to R O C K, get your bandanas out and get ready to mosh. If you’re in Val the head down to Dick’s for Carpetface and Audible’s return which is going to get you jumping around to the beats so have fun and stay safe. Peace out.
