Wow, just like Billy Idol sang back in 1980-something, it is “hot in the valley” or something like that anyway! Summer has hit up here and it is hot, hot, hot! The snow is melting fast and there are big mud patches and water rides all over the hill, fun, fun, fun!
Down in town, everything’s shutting quicker that a mountain fox chasing a marmotte and it’s starting to look like a bit of a ghost town. There were quite a few big closing parties this week and the seasonaires were out in force and in costume.
The Alexandra was packed to the rockin’ tunes of Jukebox Mama with Phil and Aly guest singing a few songs and generally getting the mosh pit pumping in the middle of the bar, it was hotter than a sauna in there but that didn’t stop getting everyone involved and jumping around like Jack Flash.
Sunday night was a big one with both the Moris and Dick’s closing their doors for the season and with their theme of Chavs vs. Rahs, there were considerably more chavs, it seems that there’s a soft spot in everyone’s heart for a bit of a chav up here in Val, maybe cos we see plenty of Rahs all season. The party moved onto Dicks with plenty of hilarity and tongue in cheek stereotyping going on.
Tuesday was VSpot’s official closing party (although it’s still open until next week) with some dark drum n bass beats and a packed bar with a good mix of French and English seasonaires and lots and lots of shots, it was also the Warm Up closing party so we sneaked in for some Agua bombs (much more potent than any of the Jager variety) and left pretty wobbly afterwards, what a send off!
Wednesday was the big Saloon closing with crazy drink offers and the whole of the remaining seasonaire population of Val d’Isere. There was lots of drinking and dancing as Josh busted out some phat beats for us all to enjoy and enough cocktails and triangles of shooters to give you a bad head in the morning.
As for the coming week, there’s the massive Folie Douce closing party on Saturday which in this sunshine will be an awesome day with kickers if you want to ride, the usual beats if you want to dance and of course enough booze to fill the Lac de Chevril. Don’t miss it, it’s going to be one to remember, depending on how much you’ve drank of course!
Then Sunday is the last Funi of the season so head up at ten to five to see crazy seasonaires in crazy costumes on crazy contraptions heading down the OK Orange any way they can, it’s one of the most amusing days of the season. The party will carry on in Blue Note until the early hours as they close the doors for a final time this winter.
It’s been a great winter. I’m off to Vietnam for some tropical 40˚ heat so whatever you’re doing, stay cool, stay safe and have a good one. TTFN.
