Val d'Isere Lift Pass Options - Winter
| Lift Pass Options for Val d'Isere - Winter |
With eco-issues and climate change being ever-more important to mountain resorts Val d’Isere has come up with the recyclable pass. This version requires no deposit and can only be bought in resort. A photograph is required for 8-21 day passes. Recycling bins for old cards can be found by the lift pass offices.
For maximum convenience the rechargeable pass can be purchased online and is valid for 3 years. Once purchased, at an initial price of €3, this pass can be charged and recharged as necessary online. A photograph is compulsory. |
| Espace Killy or Val d'Isere Lift Pass? |
|
For intermediate skiers, buying a pass for the whole Espace Killy is to be highly recommended. It is only marginally more expensive than a pass for Val d’Isere only (€42 per day compared to €40, €212.50 per six days compared to €192.50) and cheaper than extending you pass to cover the whole area for a day or two. Tignes is very easily accessible via the Borsat Express or Tommeuses lifts and there are blue runs back into both resorts. If the snow conditions are variable, it also means you can maximize the skiing potential of the whole area. |

| Beginners Lift Passes & Free Lifts |
If you are a complete beginner, then it is likely that you will be joining ski school for most of your stay, so it is worth discussing with them which pass option is best suited for their beginner groups.
The free nursery slopes are ideal for learning the basics on long shallow slopes. There are a number of free lifts available in Val d’Isere that are aimed at encouraging beginners up the slopes, namely:
- La Daille Les Lanches drag lift
- Solaise Legettaz drag lift
- Solaise Savonette drag lift
- Solaise Rogoney chair lift
- Solaise Village chair lift

| Pedestrian Passes |
Val d’Isere isn’t all about the snow sports! Pedestrians (piétons) are encouraged up the mountain by reduced prices on a number of lifts. It is well worth the ride to take in the view, watch the action and catch some sun on a well-positioned terrace. Much of the après ski starts before you’ve even had chance to get down off the mountain, with many high altitude bars and restaurants featuring DJ’s on certain days and deck chairs from which to enjoy an aperitif or two...
Pedestrian-friendly lifts:
- Cable cars – Solaise, Olympique and Fornet
- Gondolas – La Daille and Le Vallon
- Funicular lift - Funival
- Chair lift – Solaise Express
- Chairlifts (ascent only) – Manchet Express (only when connecting slope Lac Ouillette is open), Bellevarde Express and Loyes Express

| Discounted Rate Passes |
As far as we are aware there are no specific discounts for disabled skiers, however the Alpine resorts are all upping their game in making the mountains much more accessible, with better and more varied equipment and more specific qualifications for instructors.
A child pass is available to 5-13 year olds and a senior is anyone between the ages of 65-74. Anyone under or over these ages goes free, but must purchase a magnetic ‘hands-free’ card for 3€. To benefit from reduced prices you must show your passport at the time of purchase.
There is also a reduced rate between 01/12/07-21/12/07 for those who can get away for a pre-Christmas break.

| Lift Passes - Additional Information |
Bad Weather
Although Val d’Isere is blessed with an abundance of snow, there are reasons why sometimes you may not be able to ski on it (ice, poor visibility, avalanche risk, etc) and those nice people who run the lifts will deny access if they deem it dangerous for us to be up there (frustrating, but it’s for our own good!) In the event of lifts closing any passes valid for between 3-21 days will be refunded on the basis of the number of days not skied, after deduction of one day excess.
Loss or theft of your lift pass
Keep your lift pass safe and your lift pass receipt safer. If the annoying should happen and your lift pass is nowhere to be found just take your receipt to the office and they will replace it the next day for the princely sum of €10. Your initial pass will be deactivated so no one else can use it, so if you find it again carry on using the replacement.
Insurance
It goes without saying that you must be properly insured before taking to the slopes, but you can also purchase insurance on a daily basis as you buy your lift pass. Carré Neige costs just €2.50 per day for adults (€2 for children) and is the instantly recognised mountain sports insurance in France that covers you for:
- Search and rescue expenses, first aid and rescue transport
- Medical expenses and repatriation costs (within France only)
- Reimbursement of unused days ski pass (restrictions apply)
