Saturday afternoon was a challenging one for the Val d'Isere ski patrol as they were faced with an awkward rescue operation.

At around 13:00 a 16 year old from Paris fell while skiing with his father in the off piste area known as the Vallee Perdue - 'Lost Valley' - injuring himself in the incident. The route is an extremely narrow and rocky one and the young man not only hurt himself in the fall but also reportedly lost his skis in the incident which rendered him unable to continue his descent unaided.

The local ski patrol were dispatched to assist the teenager and upon arrival at the scene found him to be suffering from a fractured arm and forearm. The young man was then evacuated by helicopter to hospital in Bourg St Maurice.
