Val d’Isere awaits the arriving of the French swimming team who have come to train and recover from their performance at the 2011 World Swimming Championships in Shanghai last month, where they were placed 8th out of 27 international teams.

The resorts of Val d’Isere and Tignes are popular with athletic teams as their sports facilities and high altitude make them ideal training grounds. The benefits of training at high altitude include greater lung capacity and increased production of red blood cells.

The team is due to arrive this afternoon and swimming fans may catch a glimpse of their heroes as they will be getting out and about and incorporating mountain sports such as hiking and mountain biking into their training schedule. They also have a few fun activities planned such as rafting and spending the night in a mountain refuge.

Technical director Christian Donze says that the team will not be shying away from meeting the public but they are here to kick-start their Olympic training in time for London 2012 and will be focussed on working hard.
