The latest episode of high pollution, which started on the 23rd of February, is set to persist putting the Rhone Alpes on an official pollution alert.

The stable weather of late has allowed the accumulation of pollutants in the atmosphere, Meteo France have announced at least another two days of fine weather conditions which will see the pollution alert continue into a week long period.

During peak pollution periods there are a number of recommendations to help reduce pollution levels and protect yourself from the pollution:

  • Avoid physical activity at valley bottoms where pollution is heaviest.
  • On the roads avoid using your car and make use of shared transport, reduce your speed by 20 km/h when driving above 70 km/h.
  • Avoid if possible heating using local combustion such as open fires and wood burners.
