The earth moved last night in Val d'Isere as a result of an earthquake 40km away in Lanzo, Italy. The effects of the quake were felt in the Savoie - especially in the Maurienne and Tarentaise valleys.

Network Sismalp recorded an earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter Scale at 02:02 in the northern part of the Piedmont in Italy. Earthquakes are a frequent occurrence in the Franco-Italian Alps and tremors of between 0 and 1 magnitude are recorded on a daily basis. Larger earthquakes such as yesterday's one however are much less frequent, only occurring around once each year.

This is the second time since the beginning of the year that an earthquake of this magnitude has been recorded in the area.
