Police officer injured in car crash

The delivery driver was apparently delivering clean laundry to the UCPA and was turning his van across the junction, taking up most of the road. He did not see the police vehicle approaching, who was unable to avoid the delivery van.

The collision was so severe that the police vehicle was turned over and a lamp post was knocked down. Despite the fact that he was wearing a seat belt, the police officer was thrown forward with enough force for his head to break the windscreen. He was knocked unconscious and had to be pulled from the vehicle by the fire brigade.

Once he came round the police officer was strapped into a neck brace and a leg splint before being taken to hospital in Bourg Saint Maurice.

The delivery driver was only slightly injured and was treated at a local doctor’s surgery.
