France's highest hotel opens in Val d'Isere in 2019

Old Solaise lift station to be transformed into luxury hotel

After several years of planning, the luxury refuge in the old Solaise lift station has an opening date. Winter 2018/19 will see the first guests spend the night at 2550m, France's highest hotel.

The building, which dates back to 1948, will be completely transformed and will incorporate 10 rooms, 6 apartments and presumably to qualify as a refuge, a 14-bed dormitory. The old docking point for the cable cars, a large opening facing down the valley, will be glazed over and provide the suites inside with world class views.

To accompany the accommodation, there will be a 20m pool and spa and 2 restaurants. Given the nature of the hotel, a stay is likely to be in the upper range of most people's budgets but it's sure to be a hotel like no other. We will keep you updated on progress and who knows, maybe we'll get a peek inside next winter.

In the meantime, take a look at our recommended hotels and chalets and start booking your ski holiday in Val d'Isere next season.
