61 British cyclists raising money for cancer research

featured in News & reviews Author Ellie Mahoney, Val d'Isere Editor Updated

In 2014 a team of intrepid cyclists, some novices and some more experienced riders, set out to raise money for cancer research after one of their friends was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Since they started in 2014, they've done a number of tough cycling challenges across France, with more and more riders taking part each year.

So far their fundraising has topped a whopping £500,000 and this year they're back again with a ride that takes in even more of the iconic Tour de France climbs, spread over a few gruelling days - as if the last few years challenges weren't enough...

The 61 team member or 'Curistas' are joined this year by a number of first timers, including our very own director Chris Richard and a number of other débutants. A number of veteran riders will also be making a return to test themselves on these iconic hill climbs and no doubt encourage the new participants along the way.

The stages for this year's ride are going to be tough, culminating with the infamous climb up the 21 bends to Alpe d'Huez - a particularly hard way to finish the ride.

Stage Date Distance Vertical
1 31st August 83.6km 2472m
2 1st September 102.4km 2448m
3 2nd September 86.3km 2190m
4 3rd September 108.1km 4104m

We wish the team all the very bet for this years challenge. If you'd like to support them and the great work of the Royal Marsden hospital cancer research, you can donate here and follow their progress on Twitter #LeCure16.
