Val d'Isere Apres Ski Report: 19th January 2012

An old favourite gets a revamp

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Katherine Harle, Updated

It’s been a lovely week weather-wise with clear blue skies everyday and although it’s a bit cold, if you wrap up warm you don’t feel it. The pistes are great and it’s clouded over today in preparation for the snow that’s forecast for these next few days. Life is good here in Val d’Isere.

I was in the Blue Note on Tuesday having a quiet après drink when I bumped into a friend who spends her summers in Hossegor. I was very excited to find out that a band I like, who also spend their summers in Hossegor, were playing that evening in Dick’s. The group is called The Cheerleaders and I headed down at 11pm to check out what was happening.

As per one of my earlier reports, Dick’s Tea Bar has had a whole new make-over and is looking really classy. The whole area has been separated into two. The first room with a brand new bar is designed for après and earlier night events. It’s very classy indeed with chic coloured lighting and comfy sofas.

When I arrived, the band were already playing. The stage area is just opposite the bar which leaves lots of space for dancing or you can just grab a bar stool, sit back and watch.

The Cheerleaders play a mix of rock covers. Tonight they were playing a nice chilled out set, with some Kings of Leon in the mix. If that’s your type of music, look out for them playing in the future, they’re a fun band to watch.

I also got to have a cheeky peek at the second room while it was empty and get a proper look at the new DJ box and dance-floor. It’s looking very smart indeed and as usual, is packed night after night.

I was in the night before and there was a very friendly crowd jumping about to a mix of music from dance to hip-hop to retro classics. Resident DJ Nate Green always gets people up and dancing and is also open to requests if you’ve got something you really want to hear.

There are also special events throughout the season, including Krafty Kuts last week and tonight the Urban Knights will be thumping out some beats so it’s worth checking out the publicity to see if one of your favourite DJs are playing.

Also, keep an eye out for their special events earlier on in the evening whether it be après or later on. Dick’s isn’t just a night club and on Tuesday night, when the Cheerleaders were playing, there was a lovely, relaxed atmosphere where people came to enjoy the music and have a few drinks.

Dick’s is open for après from 4pm and carries on throughout the night until 5am, with the second room opening up later on in the evening. There are brand new sound and light systems to keep you dancing. You can also reserve one of the exclusive VIP tables but availability is limited so you do need to book ahead. The number to call is; +33 (0)6 20 17 89 54 and mention Valdinet.

Regular weekly events are;

  • Friday, it’s resident DJ Nate Green playing
  • Saturday Social Club is the theme the following night
  • Sundays are Chalet Girl Sundays
  • Monday and Wednesday nights, it’s DJ Joakim Alfvegren

Special events are on weekly so keep your eyes open, events can be everything from live bands to well known DJs.

Well that’s it from me. If you’re around tonight then I recommend you check out Urban Knights at Dick’s.

Have fun and stay safe.
