James Allen's Ski School, Val d'Isere

Specialising in Private lessons, both on & off-piste. Independent British ski instructor

James Allen is an independent British instructor with 24 years skiing experience in Val d’Isere offering both group and private lessons, on and off-piste.

He is a fully qualified British ski instructor with BASI Level 4 qualification and full French equivalence who has been based in Val d’Isere since the 1991/2 Olympic season. Having spent 10 years living there full time plus numerous weeks during other seasons, he has a vast knowledge of the ski area and offers quality ski lessons to complete beginners through to advanced skiers alike.

Group lessons are a more cost effective way to learn and also being in a mixed group this can be a fun and sociable way of learning. Again these are available to all levels of skier. Group sizes are limited to a maximum of six people.

Private lessons can be arranged and are tailored to suit your every need and the lesson is fully focused around your goals. These can be taken for all levels of skier from the complete novice who’s about to embark on their first tentative turns or the advanced skier looking to hone their skills and learn to carve the perfect turn. You can also book the private lesson with friends or family to help share the cost.

Off-piste/Back-country ski touring sessions are available to experienced skiers and those who are looking to make their first turns in some deep powder and venture off the beaten track for the first time. If you are a well accomplished off-piste skier and wish to improve, or just have James guide you around the Espace Killy and show you some of the more out the way steep and deep runs, then he can help you.

Where to meet

The usual meeting point is at the bottom of the Solaise Express chairlift. However, James is happy to meet elsewhere to suit you or come and meet in your Chalet or Hotel. If you're dropping off a child for a lesson, the meeting point is the same and a parent or minder will need to wait there with them at the agreed meeting time.

Reviews

  • "I skied with James for a week in March and had a wonderful experience. From the first time I contacted James by email he was extremely responsive and easy to communicate with. He went out of his way to meet me at my chalet every morning and was 100% professional and reliable throughout. He knows Tignes and Val d'Isere ski areas intimately which made exploring the terrain so much more fun. The ski coaching was of the highest standards, he quickly honed in on my weaknesses and came up with drills and exercises to help me improve. The video analysis was also very helpful. Would not hesitate wholeheartedly recommending James and look forward to skiing with him again next season." - Customer feedback
  • "James looked after my wife and I on consecutive days, and we both got considerable value from our time with him. We don't usually take private lessons but James had come recommended and I don't think either of us will ever go back to group lessons now! We both wanted different things from our lessons and James delivered in that respect. James was very patient, calm, helpful, clear in his instructions and his supreme knowledge of Val d'Isere ensured we got the best of our day too. We can thoroughly recommend James and expect to book him again next year."  - Customer feedback
  • "After being skiing a few times, but never having any lessons, I booked James for myself and my seven year old son for a week whilst in Val d’Isere. We instantly warmed to his kind and friendly nature and he made us both feel very comfortable. He showed great skill in managing the two of us, who were at different levels, and made our lessons fun. He showed patience and humour, which was needed at times believe me and my son trusted him to help him develop and learn, even when he was nervous at times. It was well worth having private lessons and was money well spent. We will be back for sure. Highly recommend!" - Customer feedback
