Discover and book Val d'Isere lift passes

Updated

Val d'Isère is part of one of the largest linked ski areas in Europe, with more than 300km of pistes spread over two different resorts: Tignes and Val d'Isère. This ensures that buying a Val d'Isère lift pass is money well spent.

To start with, be aware there are two main types of lift pass to choose from:

  • Val d'Isère Valley pass - the cheaper, local area ski pass; suitable for beginners.
  • Tignes-Val d'Isère pass - whole area pass, offering access to a whopping 300km of pistes in two different ski villages/valleys.

In our experience, most people visiting Val d'Isère stay for a week, which means that a six day Tignes and Val d'Isère lift pass is the top choice among skiers and snowboarders who want to enjoy our mountain playground.

You bet there are! Val d'Isère offers free passes for children under eight years old, and child rates have been extended up to and including 18 year olds. Plus there are discounts to be had online, for beginners, disabled skiers, and those coming late in the ski season.

If you're looking to save money on your lift pass, make sure you check out the best ways to reduce the overall cost. Quite often the pricing structures can be complex, but it's worth reading our guide below for some insights.

What are the best ways to save money on Val d'Isère lift passes?

  • Look out for early pre-season sales and start/end of season discounts
  • Buy Group or Family packs if eligible, buying all passes together
  • Buy online ahead of arriving to save both time and money in resort
  • Buy six day passes, for a better per 'day rate' over shorter durations
  • Buy the local area pass rather than full area, albeit with fewer options

Family ski pass discounts
Tignes-Val d'Isère have done away with combined "group pack" discounts, and now in addition to the children discounted rates mentioned above, seniors 65-74 years old pay a reduced rate and those over 75 years old ski for free.
There is a discounted children's promotion, where all purchases of four or more 6 day plus passes, if at least two of the children are aged 8 to 18 years, there is a discount when purchased at the ticket office in resort, and an even bigger discount when purchased online. Proof of age will be required for all passes under these offers. Plus on passes of 6 to 13 days you will be given one additional day free, so for example when you buy a six day pass you will actually get a pass for seven days. For passes of 12 and 13 days, you will get a bonus two extra days.

Val d'Isere Valley ski-passes (Local area)

Where can you ski with a Val d'Isère Valley lift pass?
The pass enables you to ski on the Solaise, Bellevarde, Le Fornet and la Daille areas on the Val d’Isère side of the valley. You can go as far over as the legendary après-ski hot spot of La Folie Douce but you cannot take the Tommeuses chairlift which links Val d'Isère and Tignes. Instead, you will need to take the Mont Blanc chairlift back up above the Val Snow Park or drop down the pistes to La Daille.

Who should buy a Val d'Isère Valley ski pass?
The Val d'Isère Valley ski pass is best suited to beginner skiers and advancing intermediates – anyone who is happy to stay closer to home or not fussed about skiing all day, every day. This is also an option for those staying in the area for a short period of time or those who are quite happy skiing at their own pace. Val d'Isère only ski passes can only be bought at the ski pass offices in resort.

Where to buy ski passes in Val d'Isere

There are two main ways of purchasing your Val d'Isère ski pass: online and in resort.

How to buy your Val d'Isère ski passes online – A step-by-step guide
To save time and money, you can pre-order your Val d'Isère ski passes online. The process is really simple:

  1. Click on the button below, which will take you to Val d'Isère's main lift pass website.
  2. Select how many days you want your ski pass for, the start date you require and how many people of each age group are in your party.
  3. Any discounts you may be eligible for will be automatically applied to the price of your passes.
  4. Choose if you want ski insurance or not – we recommend you add it.
  5. State whether you already have a rechargeable card (in which case you'll need to insert its 23-digit WTP number – see below for more information) or you don't.
  6. Create an account with your personal details.
  7. Choose whether you want your ski passes to be delivered to your home address for a small fee (allow at least 12 days for delivery outside France and eight days within France), or you prefer to pick them up at one of the cash desks.
  8. Pay for your ski passes.

That's it, you're all ready to hit the slopes!

How to buy your Val d'Isère ski passes in resort
You can also buy your pass at a lift pass office when you get to resort. If you're uncertain of the pass you need or are looking to see how the weather is before buying your pass, then this can be a good option. The lift pass office staff is also great at advising exactly which pass is best for you while some passes, such as pedestrian and beginner lift passes, are only available at the ski pass offices. Be warned, though, you may have to queue, especially at busy times.

How ski passes work in Val d'Isere

Ski passes in Val d'Isère are loaded onto a rechargeable SmartMedia card, which is more or less the size of a credit card and has a chip that stores the lift pass information. This hands-free card is read remotely at the entrance of the lifts, so you just need it to put it in a pocket on your left side (many ski jackets have a special pocket on the left sleeve) and the turnstile will activate remotely as you pass through. Keep it away from your credit cards, mobile phone or other ski passes as they may obstruct the card reading.

What is a ski pass WTP number? You can recharge and top-up your Val d'Isère hands-free card as many times as you want over several years. In order to do so, you need to enter the card's WTP (Wireless Transaction Protocol) number when purchasing your pass online. You can find this number on your card. After you've recharged your hands-free card in advance, you can generally go directly to the lifts without having to stop at the lift pass offices.
